The Reserve Bank of Fiji is launching a new series of banknotes that will be officially unveiled by President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu on 2nd December this year, in Suva, and the new notes will come into circulation from 2nd January 2026.
RBF Governor, Ariff Ali says the RBF undertakes a banknote review exercise every 10 to 12 years, with the last review completed in 2012, resulting in the introduction of the current flora and fauna banknote series, in circulation.
RBF says as stipulated in the Reserve Bank of Fiji Act 1983, the RBF undertakes comprehensive technical and design reviews of Fiji’s currency to ensure national requirements are met in terms of maintaining the quality and the authenticity of currency in circulation.
Governor Ali highlighted that the review continues to reflect Fiji’s national heritage, biodiversity and culture.
For the upcoming new series, the review has led to new designs on the back of the banknotes and the makeup of a substrate or material that supports greater durability.
New security features to safeguard against the continued risk of counterfeiting have also been included, and improved features have been added to aid the visually impaired.
