Questions are now being raised on the effectiveness of the cleaning of the CWM Hospital by the outsourced contractors as the Government Tender Board had approved the contract for the provision of cleaning services at a cost of $2.495 million per year for a period of three years on 24th November 2021.
CWM Hospital facilities have been in a filthy and pathetic condition for years, and a major community effort resulted in a clean up organized by the CWM Board of Visitors, International Women’s Association and other interested partners with the Health Ministry over the weekend.
When questioned by fijivillage News on the effectiveness of the cleaning contract given in 2021, Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says this service was outsourced some time ago.
He says there is a review process being done.
Doctor Fong says they agree with the state of the hospital and he hopes to get an update from the CWM administration team on their review findings soon.
He says whatever the case, he is of the opinion that the process of outsourcing and managing contracts need to be strengthened.
When asked by fijivillage News, Acting Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica says the importance of good governance and having proper tenders are being looked at.
