Public consultation on the proposed Energy Fiji Limited tariff increase will begin soon.

Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission CEO Seinikavika Jiuta says EFL had put in their submission in April and it is currently being reviewed by their team.

She says they are meeting with EFL on a monthly basis to go through the cost structures, their assets and everything else.

Jiuta says they are due to go for public consultation, but they are still at the preliminary stages of assessments.

Meanwhile, EFL Board Chairman Rokoseru Nabalarua says the last time the EFL tariff was changed was in 2019, and Fiji has the cheapest tariff right now compared to New Zealand and Australia, which has a lot of technology.

He says the cost of living has increased, but unfortunately for them, they did not have the opportunity as their application was rejected about two years ago.

Nabalarua says they will make sure that whatever will be brought about will be done in a way that will soften the impact on everyone.
