Professor Prasad urges predictable and affordable international development support

We want all international development assistance to be part of predictable, affordable, and transformative programs that lift people out of poverty, create decent livelihoods and restore hope to communities on a large scale.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad highlighted this during the opening of the UN Pacific Leadership Planning and Collaboration Meeting at Novotel Hotel in Lami.

Professor Prasad emphasized that the meeting is vital for Pacific leadership, as it provides an opportunity for leaders to set their priorities while addressing the challenges facing the region.

He stressed that Official Development Assistance should not only be used to test ideas and build capacity.

Meanwhile, UN Resident Coordinator, Dirk Wagener says the meeting provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on the Pacific’s achievements so far and to explore ways to respond more effectively to regional challenges.

Wagener adds that this is also a time for leaders to come together and discuss strategic directions to strengthen their services.
