A man who allegedly assaulted his ex-wife’s partner to death at a block of flats in Christchurch has been named.
Niraj Nilesh Prasad appeared in the High Court in Christchurch charged with murdering former Fiji resident, Faiz Ali on February 21.
Prasad's name suppression was lifted during his appearance.
Witnesses had reported seeing a man carrying a hammer fleeing the scene.
Ali was in a relationship with Prasad’s ex-wife at the time of his death.
He worked as a manager at a shop and had moved to New Zealand from Fiji about six years ago.
Many of his family still live in Fiji and were unable to attend his funeral due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
