Due to the nature and complexity of the high profile cases, the Fiji Police Force will not be releasing information directly on the facts of each case as the matter is still under investigation.
Chief of Intelligence and Investigations, ACP Sakeo Raikaci has made these comments after fijivillage News asked Police to confirm the details in relation to a file sent through to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for assessment of the evidence and recommendation of charges against Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka.
The Office of the DPP had released a statement yesterday that a police docket has been sent on 5th April 2023 for a suspected charge of urging political violence and urging communal antagonism for Rabuka and Ditoka.
The DPPs Office had said a decision is yet to be made on it.
When asked for the details regarding the investigation, ACP Raikaci says the Fiji Police Force does not wish to pre-empt charges until and unless the Office of the DPP provides the legal advice on the charges to be laid against the individual person of interest.
He says they will not make further comments on the issue.
ACP Raikaci says the investigation process is such that when a report is lodged, investigators gather as much relevant evidence and statements before persons are brought in for questioning.
He says after such process, the file is then sent to the DPP’s Office for legal advice.
The Office of the DPP had provided an update on high profile dockets currently under consideration by the office which includes suspected charges for Sitiveni Rabuka, Voreqe Bainimarama, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Sitiveni Qiliho, Sakiasi Ditoka, Mohammed Saneem, Ili Vunisuwai and Mesake Waqa.
