The Fiji Police Force is urging people to remain vigilant as we brace for a weekend of continuous rain.

They say the Weather Office has issued a Heavy Rain warning for the Fiji Group due to a trough of low pressure and flooding in low-lying areas is expected.

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abdul Khan says people should plan their movements and continue to monitor the weather reports.

He says parents should keep their children indoors and should not allow them to go near flooded areas, and they are calling on all parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts.

ACP Khan says in the past, Police Officers use to clear out children found swimming in flooded waters or roaming around flooded areas for no reason.

He adds they have activated their Command Centres and are closely monitoring the situation on the ground as the rain continues.

The Chief Operations Officer says they have teams on standby at all Police Stations who will be deployed when the need arises, and if you know that you are staying in an area prone to flooding, now is the best time to move to higher grounds.

He further says their Officers have been visiting flooded-prone areas and have been advising community members on the current weather situation.

If you need assistance, please contact the Police Divisional Command Centres on 9905 457 for the Western Command Center, 9905 722 for the Northern Command Center, 9905 529 for the Southern Command Center and 9905 563 for the Eastern Command Center.
