Police urge businesses to be vigilant after current trends show the use of forged company cheques to obtain goods

The Fiji Police Force is urging business operators to be vigilant and conduct thorough checks before engaging in financial transactions involving forged cheques.

This is after reports received of this happening in the Western, Eastern and Southern Divisions.

Police say current trends have shown the use of forged company cheques to obtain goods from business entities.

They further say the perpetrators are targeting major business outlets such as supermarkets and hardware outlets.

Police adds the perpetrators are using forged cheques with the intention of obtaining valuable goods through fraudulent measures by issuing cheques belonging to certain companies with forged signatures.

They also say once the transaction is completed, carriers would be hired to pick and deliver goods or materials to a different location.

Police are urging business operators to be vigilant and to call Crime Stoppers on 919 if they suspect any transaction where cheques are involved to be fraudulent.
