Police turn away many people from checkpoints within the containment zones because they did not have any valid reason to travel
Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu

Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu says they have turned away many people from checkpoints within the containment zones because they did not have any valid reason to travel.

Tudravu says restrictions of movement are still in place despite the uplifting of the containment border.

Members of the public are advised to plan their movements before going out.

Tudravu stresses that members of the public in the containment zone can only move around for approved work, food supplies and medical emergencies. He says everyone has to follow COVID-19 safety practices.

Many people have been seen moving around in different parts of the Lami to Nausori containment zone.

We have also received calls from Lami that many people are not following physical distancing, some people are not wearing masks while there seems to be increased movements.

In one incident, a couple who asked six youths to wear their masks near Suvavou were told by them that they do not care if they die or if they infect others.

A call was made to Lami Police to inform them about this matter.

We are awaiting comments from Police.
