Police say there was no permit issued by them for the march by priests, church workers and youths along Nasese this morning.
Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says it was relayed to senior members part of the march that they needed a permit issued by Police in consultation with the Fiji Roads Authority and the relevant municipal council.
The Pacific Conference of Churches says police stopped their march and forced climate change activists to remove banners.
It says they gathered to march to My Suva Park when police arrived.
The march was organized by the Columban Society of the Roman Catholic church.
It coincided with the church's Season of Creation and the COP26 climate conference.
Marchers carried banners that called for reduced carbon emissions and an end to global warming.
According to the Pacific Conference of Churches, Police allowed the crowd of about 100 to walk to the nearby Pacific Regional Seminary where an event was held.
