After concerns were raised that some police officers have refused to acknowledge the violence against women, a one day training session was conducted to train officers on how to address gender based violence and supporting survivors.
The training was led by the Ministry of Women in partnership with Fiji Women's Crisis Centre, Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Salvation Army and Fiji Police Force's officials from various Police Post within the Southern Division.
The Ministry says the sessions covered an overview of gender based violence emphasising a survivor-centred approach and responsibilities of stakeholders.
Divisional Police Commander Southern, Senior Superintendent of Police Wate Vocevoce encouraged officers to demonstrate empathy, respect and dignity when serving survivors.
This training opportunity reflects the collective commitment of all sectors to work together to end violence against women and children.
