Police have confirmed that they are now looking into a possible case of negligence in all the drowning incidents concerning children this month.
Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they will be able to determine the charges once the investigation process is complete and after having consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Six of the ten drowning incidents so far this month were involving children aged between 3 years old to 14 years old.
This includes a 3-year-old without a life jacket in a boat, two brothers trying to save each other while the babysitter slept under a tree, and another child who drowned in the Olympic pool.
A five-year-old boy drowned in Savusavu during a family picnic on Monday while a 3-year-old boy drowned in the Wailoku River on Tuesday.
The drowning toll currently stands at 31 compared to 25 for the same period last year.
