Police intensify drug crackdown with raids in Nadonumai

Residents say drugs are still being sold in the area

Police intensify drug crackdown with raids in Nadonumai

Police recently conducted two drug raids in Nadonumai, Lami as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities, responding to Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua’s call for stronger action on drug issues.

The Minister’s appeal followed concerns raised during fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan on the 23rd of last month where people from the area asked Tikoduadua to take action due to reports of hard drugs being openly sold day and night near a common driveway at the Nadonumai roundabout, in plain view of children, women and men.

Residents had expressed frustration, claiming that vehicles frequently come to the area for pick-ups and when police are called, it appears the individuals involved are tipped off, allowing them to temporarily disappear before resuming their activities.

Until today, the residents have confirmed that the drug operations continue.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed to fijivillage News that 15 people have been arrested in Delainavesi and Nadonumai in connection with drug offences.

ACP Driu says the officers seized illegal substances during the raids, although final details on the quantity are yet to be confirmed.

Police say they have also increased routine patrols in the area as part of this intensified crackdown.

He says from January to October, police recorded eight arrests in Nadonumai alone for methamphetamine and marijuana offences, with 15 arrests in Delainavesi, involving nine cases related to methamphetamine and six to marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasised that these operations are part of law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to address drug issues in Fiji’s communities.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
