In anticipation of increased travel during school holidays, festivals, and conferences, the Fiji Police has ramped up drug operations, particularly targeting inter-island vessels.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations ACP Livai Driu has issued a stern warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade, emphasising that they will be caught.

He says they are also conducting raids on farms and have recently made significant discoveries in Kadavu, including arrests for unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

He adds that the K9 units, supported by the New Zealand Police under the Fiji Police Partnership Programme are playing a vital role in these efforts.

ACP Driu says this partnership also strengthens the Fiji Police’s Dog Patrol capabilities in collaboration with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service.

He also urges members of the public to share information through the 917 hot-line or Crime Stoppers on 919 to assist in the fight against illicit drugs.
