Police clarify they did not run over drunk Newtown man who allegedly resisted arrest and hid under the Police vehicle

Police have stated that they did not run over a 25 year old Newtown man on Wednesday night.

Acting Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu says the man was drunk with a few others during curfew hours, he allegedly jumped off the tray of the Police vehicle and hid under the van.

A video which has gone viral shows the Police officers trying to pull him from under the vehicle

Ratu Abraham Balenivalu appeared in the Nausori Magistrates Court today.

He is charged with one count of resisting arrest, one count of failure to comply with orders and one count of damaging property.

Balenivalu will reappear in court on the 3rd of November.
