The National Disaster Management Office has received a cash donation of US$100,000 from the People’s Republic of China to aid the immediate relief efforts and support recovery in communities impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold.
NDMO Director, Vasiti Soko says the Category 4 TC Harold, impacted the Central and Eastern regions of Fiji causing life-threatening damages to the communities especially in Kadavu and the Lau Group, which is now declared a state of disaster by the Government.
Soko acknowledged the People’s Republic of China for their generosity towards the relief efforts that is currently being carried out on affected areas.
NDMO says the MV Ohana has completed the ration distribution and detailed damage assessments in Ono-I-Lau, Ogea and Fulaga and they are currently in Kabara island.
They say the MV Spirit of Love has completed its ration distribution on Moala and Matuku Island and is currently serving Totoya and Udu Village.
The NDMO is continuing with ration distribution and is expected to complete the detailed damage assessment in affected areas this week.
