Foreign Ministers from the Pacific region gathered this morning to discuss ways to reinforce their unity and amplify their collective voice on critical issues such as climate action, sustainable development, and economic resilience.
Speaking at the opening at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, Secretary-General Baron Waqa says their work is guided by the 2015 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and their long-term blueprint for regional unity and prosperity.
Waqa says today’s agenda reflects their core shared challenges and opportunities, noting that peace and security remain paramount.
He stressed the need to safeguard the region as a zone of peace amid evolving geopolitical dynamics, while also highlighting the importance of resources and economic development.
Waqa adds that discussions will also focus on advancing digital transformation and infrastructure, which can connect businesses, boost innovation, and strengthen opportunities for regional youth.
