PM says Constitution Amendment Bill will not be tabled this week, AG’s Office believes it will be ready next month

Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka confirms that the planned Constitution Amendment Bill will not be tabled and debated on in parliament this week.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Rabuka confirms that the Attorney General’s Office believes that they can be ready to table the Bill in the December parliamentary sitting.

However Rabuka says he has asked all the MPs on the government side not to travel this week as it is very important for them to be in parliament to actively take part in the discussions.

The Supreme Court has advised that the 2013 Fijian Constitution can be amended by the support of two thirds of Members of Parliament and a majority of those registered voters who vote for the change in a referendum after the parliamentary vote.
