Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh says he has been advised that around 40 teachers from the Western Division who did not receive their pay last week will be paid next Wednesday which means they will receive their pay two weeks after it was due.
He says in total, these teachers will wait one month for their next pay cycle.
Singh says he cannot understand why this is happening as these teachers are badly in need of funds.
He says these teachers are in distress and the Union will try to advance them with some funds which they can reimburse once they receive their pay.
Singh had earlier told fijivillage that the headteacher of a Lautoka based school travelled to Suva last Friday to check why his 25 teachers did not receive the pay and upon checking, found there was confusion within different departments of the Ministry of Education.
He says they believe it is poor record-keeping on the part of the Ministry that has caused this incident.
Permanent Secretary for Education, Anjeela Jokhan will not comment.
