Former Wallabies and Reds flyhalf James O’Connor has been signed by the Crusaders for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
After rumours of the veteran flyhalf being in talks with the Crusaders, it has been confirmed today that the 34-year-old has put pen to paper.
Speaking about the signing, O’Connor says he is really excited to be joining the Crusaders and is eager to test himself in a new environment.
He says his whole career, he has heard so much about the Crusaders' culture and innovation, and to experience it first-hand and learn a new way of playing the game is something he is really looking forward to.
Coach Rob Penny says O’Connor is a world-class and ambitious athlete and when they heard he was available, they reached out as they thought they could offer him something new and challenging.
Penny says they have two exciting and talented flyhalves in Rivez Reihana and Taha Kemara, and O’Connor brings a level of maturity that the club believe will complement them exceptionally well.
He further says O’Connor is also a competitor and ambitious player, which will ensure there is a weekly competition for the no. 10 jersey.
The 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season will kick off on the 15th of February.
