No need for independent fourth party in Employment Relations Bill review - Singh
Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh

Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh says there is no provision for a fourth independent party, nor is there a need for one in regards to the Employment Relations Bill.

This comes after the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation and the Fiji Tourism and Hotel Association suggested that a fourth independent party should also be involved in the review of the Bill due to unfair provisions being put into the proposed law.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Singh explains that the International Labour Organization clearly outlines the structure of a tripartite Employment Relations Advisory Board, which includes equal representation from workers representatives, employers representatives, and government officials.

The Minister further says that the most representative employers’ organization is the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, while the most representative workers’ organization is the Fiji Trade Union Congress.

Singh stresses that the current tripartite system ensures a balanced representation and compliance with international labour standards.

Meanwhile, the Bill remains with the Sector Committee, which has extended the timeframe for public submissions until 30th December.

The Minister adds that there are still opportunities for anyone with concerns to raise them with the committee.
