PM says hopefully they will get the properly channeled communication before next GCC meet

No formal communication or invitation has been received from King Charles III – GCC Chairman

Great Council of Chiefs Chairman, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says to date, no formal communication or invitation has been received from the British Monarch, His Majesty King Charles III, or through any official diplomatic channel in relation to a meeting between members of the GCC and King Charles III or visit.

Ratu Viliame says the GCC has taken note of the recent statement made by Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, regarding a possible meeting.

He says the reference made by the Prime Minister to this matter is, therefore, new information to the GCC.

The GCC Chairman says as a matter of principle and protocol, the GCC accords the highest respect to formal diplomatic processes.

He says should a formal invitation be received through the proper channels, the GCC will deliberate on the matter during its next scheduled meeting on the 25th and 26th of November.

Ratu Viliame says this platform will enable members to collectively consider the nature of the invitation and determine the appropriate course of action.

He says the GCC remains committed to conducting its affairs with dignity, transparency, and respect for established procedures that guide its engagement on matters of national and international importance.

During the People’s Alliance AGM, Rabuka had first spoken about the invitation extended to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu by King Charles III to meet the GCC members.

When contacted by fijivillage News today, Rabuka says the GCC Chairman is correct.

He says he only wanted to alert the GCC Chairman for the next meeting later in November, when hopefully, they will get the properly channeled communications.

Rabuka says he will also respect the GCC’s wish for their independence to be respected by the government.
