Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the American football team the New York Jets, was shot in the abdomen early Sunday.
According to BBC News, the 29-year-old is in critical condition at the hospital.
The NYPD did not name Boyd as the victim, but a spokesperson for the Jets confirmed to the BBC that Boyd has been shot.
The spokesperson said they are aware of the situation involving Boyd, and will have no further comment at this time.
Police received a 911 call about a shooting in midtown Manhattan.
They responded to a location outside a high-end restaurant called Sei Less.
An investigation is still underway and police do not have a suspect in custody.
