The COVID-19 testing lab at the CAAF Compound in Namaka, Nadi which is in the final stages of construction will be able to produce COVID-19 test results with a 24-hour turnaround time.
Doctor Shalini Singh from the Fiji Centre for Disease Control is in charge of the project.
Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong visited the new lab on Friday.
The lab is located on land provided by the Fiji Airways Aviation Academy which is close to the Nadi International Airport.
It will supplement the work of the Border Health Protection Unit that has been established to coordinate and oversee quarantine operations.
