Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says he will leave the new board of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the CEO to decide on whether some of the workers that were laid off during the COVID-19 pandemic will be taken back.
Professor Prasad says the terminated workers had taken the matter to court but the FRCS can look at the needs of the organization.
In February 2021, 155 FRCS workers had already lost their jobs through redundancy and voluntary redundancy and 105 more were being targeted in the second round of redundancies.
When questioned by fijivillage News, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service CEO Mark Dixon says he is looking for experience and skills.
Dixon says his job is to look forward and not backwards, and his role is to ensure that FRCS is fit for purpose.
