There is some good news as medical engineers from overseas are now installing necessary equipment in the South Pacific's first-ever free children's heart hospital which will open this year in Nasese.
The Sai Sanjeevani Heart Hospital will provide free of charge surgeries for children who are diagnosed with congenital heart disease.
53 children with this disease require surgery today and one surgery would cost $100,000 overseas.
The Director of Sai Prema Foundation, Sumeet Tappoo says an engineer from New Zealand has started installing the medical gas supply system while two more engineers from the USA are about to finish their quarantine period.
Tappoo says two more engineers will be brought from New Zealand and Australia to install equipment in the operating room, operating theater, ICU and general ward.
He says installation of the equipment is a huge step towards opening the hospital.
This is the first-ever largest project an NGO is undertaking in Fiji and the Sai Prema Foundation of Fiji is working with the Fijian government.
