19-year-old Avelina Navue says she will play her heart out for the Fiji Pearls when she makes her debut against the Papua New Guinea Pepe’s in the Vodafone Oceania Netball World Cup qualifiers.
The Fiji National University student plays centre for the Fiji Pearls.
She says they understand PNG will be coming out strong but they will be giving their all to ensure they win their first international match at home.
Navue says juggling education and national duties was a challenge, however, they are fortunate to have coaches and management that are assisting in time management.
Navue is one of the three players to make their debut for Fiji including 21-year-old Jimaima Nakete and 20-year-old Kalesi Tawake.
The Pearls will need to finish in the top two to secure their spot at next year’s Netball World Cup in Cape Town.
The competition will start today at the Vodafone Arena where the Fiji Pearls will take on PNG Pepes at 5.30pm while Samoa will face Tonga Tala at 7.30pm.
Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
