In a bid to boost disaster preparedness and enhance living standards for villagers, the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, commissioned the Naivakacau Village Evacuation Centre Retrofitting Project and the new Ablution Block in Buretu, Tailevu.

Ditoka reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being, resilience, and safety of all Fijians, particularly those in rural areas most at risk during natural disasters.

He says the upgraded evacuation centre and modern sanitation block reflect the Government’s continued commitment to creating safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces for families, women, and the elderly during emergencies.

Naivakacau Village Women’s Club Leader, Losana Bitu expressed her appreciation for the new disability-friendly facilities, noting that they will provide comfort, dignity, and safety for everyone in the community.

The Government, through the Ministry, invested approximately $50,000 in the two projects.

Ditoka praised the collaborative effort between the Ministry, local authorities, and the Naivakacau community, saying that progress is best achieved through unity and partnership.

Naivakacau Village Headman, Navitalai Vunimoli thanked the Government for its continuous support, highlighting that the new facilities will strengthen the community’s readiness and resilience during times of disaster.
