Former Namosi Provincial Council Treasurer, Rigieta Naicovi has been sentenced to a partial prison sentence of 8 months for two counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage and one count of General Dishonesty, causing a loss.
Naicovi will serve 8 months in prison from her 22 months sentence whilst the balance of 14 months will be suspended for a period of two years.
She was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption in 2021.
She forged the signatures on the Sitting Allowance List for the Namosi Provincial Council meeting and obtained a financial advantage of $390.00 from the Namosi Provincial Council, knowing she was not eligible to receive the financial advantage.
Naicovi waived her right to counsel and pleaded guilty to the offences willingly admitting the summary of facts which was read out to her during her court appearance.
The prosecution and the accused have been given 28 days to appeal.
