The development of Nabouwalu Town is currently at 50 percent completion for the terminal construction, and the project remains on track to deliver this facility by March 2025.
This has been highlighted by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa when he responded to a question from Sakiusa Tubuna regarding updates on the Keiyasi and Nabouwalu projects. Nalumisa stated that the facility will provide essential amenities, including 150 seating spaces for passengers, kiosks, operational offices for agencies, and recreational spaces, ensuring convenience and comfort for all users.
Nalumisa says the centrepiece of the project is the development of the Nabouwalu passenger terminal, a critical facility aimed at enhancing connectivity, boosting trade, and creating a more comfortable experience for commuters using the terminal.
He also highlighted the total project cost is approximately $2 million, of which $915,000 has already been paid.
The Minister further highlighted the Keiyasi new town development in the Sigatoka Valley, describing it as another transformative project spanning 9.4 hectares.
He says the development would provide essential services and infrastructure for the people of Keiyasi, the province of Navosa, and the surrounding communities.
He adds the estimated cost of civil works for the Keiyasi project is $10.8 million.
Nalumisa adds the project includes 27 commercial lots, three open spaces, reserves, a market, a bus station, a service station, and a designated space for the National Fire Authority. Additionally, industrial sites will be developed to meet the needs of residents and businesses alike.
Nalumisa also highlighted that construction of the civil works began earlier this year, with a target completion date of 2026. The initial focus is on six commercial sites, open spaces, and a service station.
