Families from Nabavatu Village who are living in tents at the Dreketi Assemblies of God Church compound after their homes were severely damaged due to landslide and land cracks after the recent cyclones have been assured of help in their relocation.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama visited the village today and has directed that a committee be formed to look into the relocation of the village.

The government has also advised the village to form a committee and work closely with government officials in the identification of a piece of land that can be used for the relocation of the village.

Bainimarama also requested village elders to ensure the safety of women and children during their stay at the church compound.

Village Headman, Viliame Naibono says they are looking at sites to relocate their homes.

Naibono says the village is meeting with the Turaga Na Tui Dreketi to decide on where exactly the families will be relocated to.

Minister for Lands, Jone Usamate says the ministry will do a geo-tech survey once the site for the relocation is determined and then they will finalise on how they can help them re-establish their village.
