As road accidents continue to rise in Fiji, the National Fire Authority has taken a proactive step to expand its services by launching a new Paramedics and Ambulance Department today.
During the department's launch, Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa commissioned 12 paramedic officers and was accorded a traditional ceremony before the program began.
In a media interview, NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane emphasised the importance of this new initiative in enhancing their capacity as first responders to emergencies such as accidents and fire incidents.
Sowane says this initiative aligns with the NFA’s broader commitment to public safety, as it continues to adapt and expand its roles to meet the growing needs of Fijians during emergencies.
Meanwhile, NFA Manager Paramedics, Seleima Matagasa says the ambulance service is a paid service, but it will be cheaper than the other ambulance providers.
