In efforts to strengthen the Nation's disaster preparedness phase, the National Disaster Management Office held its first divisional consultation at the Grand Pacific Hotel to deal with a draft of the Community-Based Disaster Rural Management Policy that will be tabled soon in cabinet.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Commissioner Central Josefo Nanuku said the draft is currently formulated and will go through the process of consultations before the National Disaster Management Office puts an updated draft and will be discussed at the national level so that it can be tabled as a cabinet paper for approval before it is endorsed.

He says the CBDRM initiative targets the preparedness and resilience to whatever disaster that may come our way, whether it's a flood or even a man-made or medical disaster like COVID-19.

He adds that communities should be prepared and resilient to the incoming effects of a disaster so that when a disaster hits our country, damages including loss of lives are minimised.
