More than 22,000 Year 12 and 13 students to return to school from today
Minister for Education Premila Kumar.

More than 22,000 Year 12 and 13 students are expected to return to school today after six and a half months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar has urged students to let the Ministry know if they are experiencing any difficulties so that counselors, teachers or heads of schools can assist them.

Kumar has also urged parents and guardians to ensure that children who are not feeling well do not go to school.

She had earlier said that they will be doing an assessment to better understand the needs of the students.

Kumar says teachers will be tasked with doing this assessment because there may be some students who will not be able to bring lunch to school or even afford other things such as bags or uniforms.

She says while Government is still paying for textbooks, tuition fees and bus fare, they will gauge if the students need other forms of assistance.

The Minister is also urging students who are not vaccinated to please get vaccinated for their safety and for the safety of others.

Kumar had also highlighted that students from Years 1 to 11 will return to school on either 29th November or 4th January.
