There has been an increase in applications for assistive equipment like wheelchairs and crutches after Tropical Cyclones Yasa and Ana.

Fiji Spinal Injury Association Executive Director Josko Wakaniyasi says they received more than 250 applications for assistive equipment after TC Yasa.

Wakaniyasi says this does not include the people affected by TC Ana and they are still trying to establish the figures.

He says a major reason for this is that when a person has to evacuate during a natural disaster, they usually leave their assistive equipment at home which gets destroyed.

Wakaniyasi says they are continuously trying to assist these people through donations but admits they still have a long way to go.
