Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Viliame Gavoka has strongly disagreed with the statement made by Oceanic Communications representative Nitesh Chandra that the quality of education and graduates we are getting in the white-collar sector is mediocre.

Gavoka says there needs to be more dialogue between the Education Ministry and the employment sector, and says there is quite a lot of misunderstanding in that area.

Gavoka says he thinks it is a bit unrealistic if these stakeholders expect these graduates to perform straight away after they just come out of university.

Oceanic Communications rep Nitesh Chandra, during a Talanoa session with the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh last week, said that universities are producing a lot of graduates in development, science and accounting, but the quality of these graduates is mediocre.

He says they interview about 12 to 15 applicants every month, and they cannot take them as they are not quality graduates.
