The month-on-month inflation rate for May this year compared to last year stands at 5 percent.

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics says the average annual rate of inflation for the twelve months to May 2022 stands at 2.2 percent.

The transport sector recorded a 14.7 percent increase as higher prices were recorded for spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment, fuel and lubricants for personal transport equipment and passenger transport by road.

The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels also recorded an increase of 1.9 percent as higher prices were recorded for paint, cooking gas and liquid fuels.

Higher prices were also recorded for clothes and shoes.

There was a 0.4 percent increase in pharmaceutical products and other medical products and 0.1 percent increase as higher prices were recorded for furniture & furnishings, household textiles, major household appliances whether electric or not, small electric household appliance, glassware, tableware and household utensils, major tools and equipment and small tools and miscellaneous accessories.

There was a 1.2 percent decrease recorded with lower prices recorded for meat, fish and sea food, milk, cheese and eggs, fruit, vegetables, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery and non-alcoholic beverages such as coffee, tea and cocoa.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics recorded a 0.8 percent decrease with lower prices recorded for yaqona.
