Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar says comments like “you belong to nowhere in the world and you should go to India” are spreading like fire on social media and we should stop this nonsense.
Akbar says misinformation about Bill No. 17 is creating fear amongst people.
While speaking on the 2021/2022 National Budget, Akbar told parliament that her daughter woke her up last night after reading these comments.
Meanwhile, Akbar says the 2021/2022 National Budget will allow the Ministry to reopen face to face mode of communication with students if the target population is vaccinated for COVID-19 and clearance is given by the Ministry of Health.
She says their current plan is to stagger the reopening based on the Ministry of Health’s approval beginning from Years 12 to 13.
Akbar adds the Ministry’s Curriculum Advisory team is realigning the curriculum to ensure it meets the current need when schools reopen.
The Minister for Education says they are now looking at improving the Primary School Maths and English curriculum which is scheduled to be trialed in 2022 and work has also begun on the revision of Secondary Schools English and Maths curriculum.
