Ministry of Environment commits to strengthening Climate and Health resilience
Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo

Fiji’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen environmental policies and climate resilience, emphasizing the urgent need for a unified approach to planetary health.

While addressing the Oceania Planetary Health Forum, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo outlined four key focus areas to strengthen inter-ministerial collaboration which is to empower communities in environmental restoration, advancing research through a Fiji-based planetary health centre and scaling up climate and health resilience initiatives.

Vosarogo also emphasized the importance of proactive measures rather than reactive responses to crises, which will be guided by the principles of the Vanua, ensuring that decisions align with Fiji’s cultural and environmental values.

He says the Ministry expressed gratitude to the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the French Development Agency, and Bloomberg Philanthropies for their support in driving these initiatives forward.

The Minister adds that as Fiji continues to face the growing impacts of climate change, all policymakers, researchers, community leaders, and global partners are urged to collaborate in building a healthier, more resilient Pacific.
