The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar took some time-out today to visit the families in Sakoca settlement that lost their homes in a fire and also provided some supplies to the families.
Akbar says the Ministry is working to speed up the assistance they have for the families but it will depend on the time they receive the Police and NFA report.
She says the families will be assisted through the Ministry's fire relief assistance.
The Minister adds for family members that are under the social welfare scheme, the Ministry will be working with the Fiji Care Insurance so that their claims are also processed.
Akbar says they are hoping the assistance can be provided to these families before Diwali.
She says they are also working with the Housing Ministry to see if they can provide a temporary shelter for families that wish to stay on.
The Minister is urging Fijians in the spirit of Diwali to come forward and provide some assistance to these families as they are in dire need of help.
Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority is working closely with the Fiji Police Force in investigating the cause of fire.
