Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru says matters concerning the Fiji Deaf Team should be addressed by the team officials before they depart from Fiji if there are any issues or concerns
Saukuru says the Ministry is responsible for the distribution of funds to all sporting bodies, including disabled athletes.
This was revealed by Saukuru after concerns were raised by a member of public in a Facebook post regarding the Fiji Deaf Team.
Saukuru further says the Fiji National Sports Commission falls under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He says the Ministry is committed to ensuring that all sporting bodies receive fair and equitable financial support.
He adds it is essential for the team officials to work out any logistical or administrative matters to ensure a smooth and successful participation in international tournaments.
Saukuru clarified that the welcoming of the national teams upon their arrival at the Nadi International Airport is part of the plan implemented by the Coalition government.
He says it is a gesture of appreciation and support for all Fiji teams returning from international tournaments.
Saukuru expressed his gratitude to the Fijian community in Australia for their unwavering support during the 2024 Australia Deaf Games held in Australia.
He assures the public that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is dedicated to providing equal opportunities and support to all sporting bodies, including those catering to disabled athletes.
Saukuru is also encouraging open communication between team officials and the Ministry to address any concerns and ensure successful participation in international tournaments.
