After more than three decades of waiting, the people of Manoca Informal Settlement are celebrating the long-awaited upgrade of their community road, which promises improved access, connectivity, and quality of life for the community.
The official commissioning was attended by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, Assistant Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Shalen Kumar, along with community representatives, the advisory councillor, and local residents.
Singh says the road upgrade is the result of the poor road conditions raised by the community two months ago when he visited the area, where residents said that it had persisted for over 30 years.
He says the Government, in collaboration with the Fiji Roads Authority, acted promptly to complete the long-overdue project.
Assistant Minister Kumar praised the residents for their patience and unity, describing the upgraded road as a symbol of perseverance, community spirit, and the Government’s commitment to inclusive development.
He also urged the community to continue working together to maintain the road and support future projects such as streetlights and water meters.
The Manoca community sincerely thanked the Government and the FRA for responding to their long-standing request and making it a reality.
