A 24-year-old man who raped his 14-year-old nephew has been given 11 years and 8 months jail term by the Lautoka High Court.
The man was charged with 2 counts of rape, 2 counts of indecently insulting or annoying any person, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape and the incidents happened between 2016 and 2017 in Nadi.
While sentencing the man Judge, Justice Chamath Morais says this was a serious and abhorrent series of crime.
Justice Morais says there was gross abuse and breach of trust and the impact on the victim has been traumatic.
A non-parole period of 8 years and 8 months has been set.
