Local govt election process remains unaffected despite announcement of new Special Administrators – Nalumisa
Ministry of Local Government

Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa says despite the recent announcement of Special Administrators, the local government election process remains unaffected, ensuring continuity in the planned electoral schedule.

Nalumisa says the appointment of new Special Administrators marks a crucial transition phase leading up to the Local Government Elections as these administrators play a vital role in facilitating a seamless transition for Municipal Councils and the Ministry of Local Government.

He says the objective is to ensure a smooth handover, allowing newly elected councillors to assume office without encountering any issues or difficulties.

The Minister says their involvement is pivotal in creating the necessary groundwork for the forthcoming local government elections.

Nalumisa says the local government elections are set to proceed as scheduled, with ongoing preparations initiated since the previous year.

He further says the Ministry of Local Government is actively collaborating with the Fijian Elections Office and the Office of the Solicitor-General to navigate the necessary processes for the election.

As to when the Local Government Elections will take place, Nalumisa says the date will be determined by the Electoral Commission.

He had earlier confirmed the local government elections will be held in the second half of this year.
