A local Facebook page is going viral for all the right reasons as it is encouraging Fijians to exchange goods, services and even conversations with each other without money exchanging hands.

Barter for Better was started just three days ago and has over 15,000 members.

The admin for the page is Marlene Dutta.

It is open for members trading anything that includes food, plants, crops, appliances, services, art and craft.

One of the members of the group, Vasenai Lauta says she is overwhelmed by the response that her post received.

She had posted that she and her daughter would bake a dozen chocolate cupcakes in exchange for their appeal for groceries for families in Kadavu who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

She says she will be with her daughter at Cost-U-Less at Laucala Bay today and they aim to pack supplies for at least 20 families.

Her post has received over 1,300 reactions.

The group has only a few specific rules; non-cash exchanges only, do not exchange during curfew hours and do not exchange anything that is illegal.

The members must also exchange goods only within their locality because of COVID-19 restrictions and delivery or exchanges to be organized by the trading partners.
