Good news for livestock farmers who may receive up to $4,700 worth of fencing materials under the Beef Fencing Kit Assistance Program, which will close on the 24th of this month.
Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Alitia Banivalu posted on her social media that the program is designed to help small and medium-scale beef farmers to grow their herds through proper paddock establishment by supplying key fencing materials.
She says the government will cover two-thirds of the cost, with farmers contributing the remaining one-third, including labour and other materials.
A total of 18 farmers will be selected for assistance, with priority given to those who have not received previous support.
The requirement are as follows:
Own secured leased land more than 30 acres or communal land with written consent from Yavusa, Mataqali, Tokatoka members, and witnessed by a legal officer.
Have more than 10 breeding cows, possess at least 3 years of experience in beef farming, have completed TB testing on their herd, show access to available pasture and existing farm infrastructure, and provide proof of an existing market or a market pathway.
Banivalu says that interested farmers can apply online or collect Expression of Interest forms from their nearest Agriculture Office.
Applicants must submit all required documents, including a valid ID and land-related paperwork.
She says selected farmers must complete their one-third contribution within three months of receiving the materials.
She further says that monthly farm records must be submitted to the Ministry to ensure accountability and progress tracking.
The Minister adds that this initiative is part of the Ministry's continued efforts to strengthen Fiji's livestock sector, promote sustainable farming practices, and support economic opportunities for rural communities.
