The Leadership Fiji Community Fund is ready to receive the second round of applications for funding up to $10,000 in the areas of child development, education, food and nutrition, animal protection, development and protection of women and families.
Fund Chairperson Rajesh Patel says the first round proposals for community projects saw 11 community initiatives receive total funding of $54,500.
Patel says some of the projects were by Fiji Aeromedical and Rescue Services Trust who took action after the death of 9 -year-old Jerry Dauvaki of Nabua Village, Rewa.
He says there had been a rise of drowning related deaths and this prompted Fiji Aeromedical to provide swimming lessons to children of Nabua Village.
Another project was providing solar charging equipment to the Delaikamali Youth Group in Cakaudrove where youths depend on fishing as a means of livelihood.
The storing and transporting of fish has always been a problem and the Delaikamali Youth Group were assisted with solar charging equipment to assist in charging their refrigerators that store their fish prior to transporting to their markets.
Two organisations that look after the needs of animal welfare were assisted in procuring a vehicle to be used for animal rescue.
