The Land Transport Authority is urging Fijians to dedicate themselves to making it a death and injury-free Easter.

CEO Samuel Simpson says unfortunately, the holiday season is also when they often see a spike in road injuries and road fatalities, which is often avoidable.

Simpson says drinking and driving, speeding and negligence on the road is never acceptable, regardless of the situation.

He further says motorists and pedestrians alike need to take care when using or crossing the roads and just as motorists are expected to not drive under the influence of alcohol, pedestrians must also refrain from walking around, under the influence of alcohol.

Simpson adds their highest priority is to always ensure the safety of all Fijians on the roads.

They are also urging parents and guardians to be particularly vigilant when it comes to the safety of their children during the long weekend.
