The Land Transport Authority has highlighted that the proposed taxi booking app, Vodo will not take 20 percent of earnings from drivers however the Fiji Taxi Association says they are still concerned about the 20 percent the taxi operators will have to pay to LTA on a monthly basis.
Taxi Association General Secretary Ashwin Lal says with what taxis are earning at the moment, the 20 percent is a rip-off for taxi owners.
Lal says the LTA should first look into the road conditions in the country as they are paying a fee to drive on Fiji's roads.
LTA has stated the app does not take 20% of earnings from drivers and if a taxi driver earns $150 a day in taxi fares, that is what they will receive in revenue.
They say the proposed app is still at stage 1 of a procurement process and there will be consultations with all stakeholders, including taxi owners/drivers and customers, who will soon come to know how fantastic and safe the Vodo app will be.
