The licences of five drivers involved in a recent reckless driving incident along Mead Road in Nabua have been either cancelled or suspended.
Land Transport Authority Chief Executive Officer, Irimaia Rokosawa highlights that the drivers were captured on video last month by members of the public dangerously overtaking other vehicles, putting the lives of other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk.
He confirms that three drivers’ licences were cancelled for one year, while two others were suspended for six months.
Rokosawa says joint enforcement operations and road safety advocacy and awareness efforts are currently underway with stakeholders, including the Fiji Police Force, to curb high-risk behavior.
He emphasizes that these safety measures include spot checks and vehicle inspections, speed monitoring, and strict enforcement of traffic laws.
Meanwhile, Rokosawa adds the main causes of fatalities on Fiji’s roads this year include speeding, improper overtaking, careless and dangerous driving, and pedestrians at fault adding, Fiji’s current road fatalities stand at 62 compared to 46 for the same period last year, as of 29th October 2025.
